Easy run

I hadn’t intended to take so many days off of running, but this stupid cold had me sidelined for a while. I figured it’d be better to rest and get over it quickly than to push it and have a lingering cold for weeks. Today was my first run since getting struck down by this bug on Friday. HR was definitely elevated so I took it nice and easy. Felt good to run again, but I’m not quite back to my normal self….

Lake Stevens Bike Course

So I manged to get struck down with a cold bug right after Thanksgiving and have been taking it easy for a coupe of days. Today though I thought I’d see if I could kick this bug out of my system a little quicker with some exercise. So my friend Amy and I drove up to Lake Stevens and checked out the bike course. It was COOOOLD…numb toes and fingers, but the ride was good. We did one 28 mile loop…lots of hills, hills, and more hills, but overall maybe a little better than I expected. Now I know what to expect for the race and won’t be quite as intimidated by the hills….no granny gear for me! :) We ended a great day with a dip in the hot tub and some hot soup….perfect! Thanks for the ride today Amy! Let’s do it again soon!

It was a clear crisp sunny day today in Seattle so I headed out for a run at Green Lake.

It was a nice slow & easy run and it felt good to be outside!

Monday night Brick Work-out

So I think I like this schedule of taking Sunday as my easy day or rest day and then hitting Monday with a good brick work-out. I might have to make that a regular addition to my schedule. Due to the crappy weather today I was trapped in the basement on the trainer and treadmill, but it wasn’t so bad. My aerobic heart rate run pace seems to be improving bit by bit each run now which is great! It’s really easy to see progress on the treadmill because I know my exact speed and HR at any moment.

Run - 1 hours - 11/17/2007

So I am actually seeing my pace increase with this low heart rate training! :) It’s still pretty slow, but I’m hoping to soon be at a reasonable 9-10 min/mile pace at this HR. It’s nice to see an improvement after only 4 weeks and running only 3-4 days/week. When I first started I was around 12 min/mile which was excruciatingly slow.

And the best part is my body feels great. I don’t feel exhausted or on the brink of an injury like I have in the past when I was training faster and at a higher HR. I am really curious how all of this will translate into race times next spring….it’s difficult to be this patient!
