8-Mile Run
My right foot has been bothering me off and on with a touch of plantar fasciitis complicated by a heel spur I believe. It started to hurt on my tempo run on Wednesday and then hurt a lot for the rest of the night whenever I’d stop moving and start again. It was feeling much better the next day and back to almost normal by Friday so I hit another run. Long, slow distance this time and foot felt fine while running. Still, more pain afterwards when it is “cold”, but as long as it goes away within a day I’m not super concerned. Overall it seems to be getting better as I have been stretching like crazy.

Still running, really I am!
Ok, so I haven’t been posting lately but I have been running and a little biking still! I spent a week with my family and ran on their treadmill and stationary bike during the holidays. Didn’t get in quite my regular work-outs, but it was still pretty good considering the holidays and being in the middle of nowhere — North Dakota!
I did have a few more days off that I would have liked, but hey…it’s the holidays and I’m not gonna beat myself up about it.
Last night I did a tempo run at 8 min/mile pace for 4 miles after a 1-mile slow jog warm-up. The run felt great! I’ve been doing so much long-slow-distance that I had almost forgotten what it feels like to actually RUN!
Although I did feel a slight flare-up of plantar fasciitis in my right foot when I was done. My foot had been feeling great for the last few weeks so I thought I was working past it, but apparently not quite yet. Hopefully this won’t be too much of a set-back. I need to keep doing my stretches, icings, and exercises.
And hopefully I’ll post more regularly again….and actually *write* something other than the logbook entry!

Pool’s out of commission!
So I’ve been itching to swim lately. I haven’t swam since the olympic tri I did in September. My gym membership expired earlier this summer and I mostly swam in the lakes so didn’t need it. Now that it is cooooold I need somewhere to go! So Amy and I decided it was time to join the gym and go for a swim today! We showed up with the sole intent of signing up together to get a discount and doing some laps….boy were we disappointed to find out that the pool is being resurfaced until Jan 1st. :( bummer! So we skipped out on the membership and decided to wait until we can swim. Instead we visited “Moe’s Gym” (aka my basement) and she ran on the treadmill while I biked on the trainer while watching crappy TV and chatting. Now if only I could figure out how to put a pool in Moe’s Gym, I’d be all set! :) Hey, I can dream right?

Treadmill Run
It’s still frigidly cold outside and gets dark way too early these days, so back on the treadmill I go. This time I ran with a 1% incline because supposedly that is a better indication of running pace outside. Was another long slow low heart rate run….still working on an aerobic base. Getting antsy to go all out sometime! No races planned until March though when I will run the Mercer Island Half Marathon.
