Sunny Run with a Mountain View!

olymt.jpgolymt.gifHad a nice mid-afternoon run in the sun today. It is cold here in Seattle, and when it is sunny and cold we get some super clear skies and fantastic views of the mountains. I decided to run west to get a good view of the Olympic Mts! It was a great! Or to quote my parents (who don’t see the mountains very often living in North Dakota), “I thought those were clouds until I realized they didn’t move!” :)

Birthday Run with the Doggies.

dogs-057sm.jpgTook the dogs (Jonesy & Asha) out for part of my run today….did 2.5 miles with them then dropped them back off at home and did another 2.5 miles. The sun peeked out for a bit today, but it was still cold and a bit windy. All in all a good run on my 31st birthday!

90min on the Bike Trainer

So I really wanted to get outside and ride today, but unfortunately the weather gods weren’t quite cooperating. It was pretty rainy for most of the day so I decided I needed to get in a long ride anyway…figured 90 min. on the trainer would be good. To help with the pain of spinning for 90 min. in the basement I rented a stupid movie to keep me entertained and distracted. It musta worked cause it wasn’t that painful.  I then followed it up with 30 min. of strength training - upper body and core.

Run at Greenlake with a little dose of Inspiration on the side!

It was a bit brisk outside and there was still a little ice in front of my house, but since there was no chance of rain or snow it was good to get outside and run instead of the treadmill! I did my long route over to Greenlake where I met up with Amy and did a loop with her. We followed it up with some tasty salmon/ceasar salad and hot chocolate!

Then for inspiration we watched a copy of the 2007 Ironman World Championship in Kona. I think we were both trying not to cry when Sister Madonna Buder (77-yr old nun from Spokane who kicks ass!) and others were told that they could not continue because they missed the bike cut-off time by merely seconds. How heartbreaking to come that far (2.4 mi swim + 112 mi bike) and be stopped by just a few seconds and not allowed to run! I am always in awe of the athletes in Kona, and am inspired each time I am able to watch it. I’m sure racing at Kona would be an unbelievable experience…and one filled with lots and lots of sunscreen breaks for me! :)
