Trainer Ride
It was a nice day today, but by the time I was able to go for a ride it was already 6pm and nearly dark. Also, since I only had an hour I figured I’d get a better workout in on the trainer than on the road. So down to the basement to watch some crappy TV and ride the trainer. I followed it up with about 20 min. of upper body strength training.

Riding with the Snow Ghosts!
Well, I haven’t been writing for a while because my boyfriend, Jeff, and I ran away to British Columbia to snowboard with the infamous snow ghosts for a week! Big White is well known for these strange snow formations that they affectionately call “snow ghosts”. Everytime I see them I think about how happy I am to not be a tree there! Must be cold having such a think blanket of snow.
Haven’t been working out other than snowboarding - which I guess that’s probably a decent cardio and leg workout. Oh, and then there was the 10 minutes of excruciating effort as I got stuck in a tree well that had at least 4 feet of fresh heavy powder! Talk about a workout! I was sweating buckets and used every muscle and then some in my abs to get myself up and plow my way outta there….laughing (and a little swearing) at myself the entire time! If
you’ve ever been stuck in super deep powder with a snowboard you’ll know exactly the pain I am talking about! ![]()
The snow was wonderful though (lots of fresh powder the first few days) and we had a great time! Jeff got to have his favorite dessert of all-time (2 of them compliments of the manager) on his birthday — Peanut Butter Pie!
Now it is back to Seattle and back to work….and hopefully back on track training-wise. My foot is still bothering me a bit (peroneal tendonitis?) and snowboarding definitely didn’t seem to help it or let it rest, so we’ll have to see how my first run in 2 weeks goes…fingers crossed!
I was planning on running the Mercer Island Half Marathon in a couple of weeks, but I guess that’ll all depend on my foot. I’d rather take it easy now and get it fully healed then have it flare up later and cause me to miss my important races like Lake Stevens 70.3. It’s down to less than 20 weeks now before my big race! Time to get crackin!

Easy Trainer Ride
Still taking it easy on my foot, so just 30 min. on the trainer today. I’ve been feeling really tired the last couple of days and I’m wondering if because I’m not exercising as much as normal. Working out always makes me feel revitalized and full of energy. My foot is feeling mostly ok, so perhaps I will attempt an easy run this weekend to see how it feels.

Trigger Point Therapy for Foot pain
So I’m trying this Trigger Point Therapy to help with my right foot problems. I’ve been struggling with plantar fasciitis and peroneal tendonitis in this foot for a while now.
Today was the first time trying this and WOW it’s slightly painful, but hurts so good! I’ve heard and read of some people that have had very positive results for most foot-related problems using this. I think it’s going to work great actually! It’s basically a way to give yourself a deep tissue massage in just the right places, loosening up muscles and tendons that control the motion of your foot and gait. My calves feel much looser and more relaxed after just one session, and I’m not feeling that constant “pulling” feeling on my heel or ankle. So far so good!

Peroneal Tendon PT
My foot/ankle has calmed down a bit and is not hurting as much, so I did some peroneal tendon physical therapy exercises today.
I think I will also go for a swim and work more on the swim drills I learned last night. And if my foot is still feeling ok after all that I will probably bike on the trainer for 30 min. or so. I’m anxious to get back to running, but also want to make sure this isn’t a prolonged nagging injury like it has been for the last month or so already. From what I’ve read, it sounds like I may not have to stop running altogether with conservative treatment. Let’s hope that’s the case!
(If anyone is interested in more explanation on some of these exercises just let me know and I’ll send the info over!)
