Lake Stevens Ride

Headed up to Lake Stevens again today to ride the course for my upcoming half ironman.  For me the course is brutal due to the never-ending hills!  There are a couple that are really painful for me so I need to practice practice practice!  Each time it seems a little better than the last!

The bugs seemed to be out in full force today!  I had at least 10 fly right into my mouth!  Think I managed to only swallow about 3-4 of them though!  Yum….extra protein!  :)  I also had a bee get stuck in the vent of my helmet.  I immediately stopped and flung off the helmet, shook out my hair and released him before I got stung!  That was a close one!

It was a good ride which definitely challenges both my physical and mental toughness.  It is brutal to be out there alone and know that you are going to do the loop 2 times….the exact same hills that make you curse the first time through all have to be repeated!  It’s very good for my mental training I guess!

Also a note for next time…stop at the gas station after the first loop to get more fluids.  I went completely through 3 water bottles and still had 2 brutal climbs and 15 miles to go.  I was definitely dry-mouthed and thirsty by the time I was done….it also makes it hard to spit out the bugs when you don’t have any spit in your mouth!  :)

Very good story. There were a lot of bugs today, wierd I even ate one on my run. Maybe it means it won’t snow anymore. Good luck in Vancouver next weekend. Stay healthy.
